Review one short recording with five criteria

This rubric helps you review a short recording made on your own device. Five-point means five review criteria, not a validated assessment or clinical score.

Learning objective

Listen for observable speaking behaviours, note specific evidence, and choose one improvement for the next recording.

Your entries are cleared when you leave or refresh this page.

Step 1

How to review

  1. Choose a short recording made on your own device.
  2. Listen once for the overall message.
  3. Listen again for one or two criteria.
  4. Note specific evidence.
  5. Choose one improvement to practise.
Step 2

Five review criteria

Clarity

Could I understand the key words and sentence endings?

Pace and pauses

Did the pace allow the listener to follow the message?

Organisation

Was there a clear main point and a logical sequence?

Delivery

Was my voice audible, and did I finish my thoughts?

Connection

Did I give the listener enough context and explain why the message mattered?

Do not calculate an overall percentage, diagnose speech, or infer confidence or personality from vocal characteristics.

Step 3

Next practice focus

Five-Point Recording Rubric questions

Is this a clinical speaking assessment?

No. It is a practical self-review tool for communication practice, not a diagnosis, score, or clinical measure.

What should I record?

Choose a short recording made on your own device. Listen once for the overall message, then again for one or two criteria.

Should I calculate an overall score?

No. Use the criteria to choose one next practice focus instead of turning the review into a percentage.
